Our Mission

The mission of the Spokane Tribe Wellbriety is to disseminate culturally based principles, values, and teachings to support healthy community development and servant leadership, and to support healing from alcohol, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and intergenerational trauma. Spokane Tribe Wellbriety aims to do this by creating a sustainable grassroots Wellbriety Movement that provides culturally based healing for the next seven generations of Indigenous people.

Prevention & Recovery

What Is Wellbriety?

Wellbriety is a combination of wellness and sobriety. To be well is to actively make choices to be healthy physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. To be sober is to be free from substance use and other harmful influences. Thus, wellbriety is to build a healthy life that heals and strengthens using Indigenous principles, values, and teachings.

Rules For Success

The Four Laws of Change

In order for any change to be successful, there are four laws that must be followed. Understanding these laws can help us succeed in our journey to wellbriety.

All permanent and lasting change starts on the inside, then works its way out. These changes must come from an internal desire and commitment to make a difference in our lives.

The vision we create today helps shape the future. What we think about is what we move towards and become. Your vision can shape your plans and habits to help you grow and heal.

Everyone needs to be part of the change in order for a change to occur: children, youth, adults, parents, and Elders.

A community, like a forest, is only as healthy as its roots and environment. In order for individuals, families, and communities to heal, change must occur at the root level. This is done by replacing shame, anger, fear, and guilt with Indigenous values, teachings, spirituality, and ethics.

Feelings & Thought Patterns

Cycle of Life Teachings

The Cycle of Life teachings explain the development of eight feelings and thought patterns. In order for a person to develop in a healthy way, these eight feelings and thought patterns must develop sequentially.
